Lay my life down

Catastrophe, 2011

Written by John Phillips

Well I’m standing at the crossroads

And I figure only God knows

If I’ll choose the one that leads to the top

But whatever way that I go

At least I know that I know

I am trying and I will never stop

Trying to find my place

Here within this human race

Well more lonesome times I have not found

Am I to climb this mountain

Am I to reach the higher ground

I will not let the masses slow me down

Oh there waits a crown

But I must lay my life down

For the one that needs a healing

Who’s falling down again

For the one that life sent reeling

Reaping pain for all their sins

For the one who’s been abandoned

Oh, I will be a friend

But I must lay my life down

Well at times I’ve been a stranger

To the underlying danger

Of a life lived for me, myself, and I

And of all the things I’ve worked for

I’ve found giving love means much more

Than to gain the world and lose my very soul

That is not my goal

As I live down here below

Well more lonesome times I have not found

Am I to climb this mountain

Am I to reach the higher ground

I will not let my past slow me down

Oh there waits a crown

But I must lay my life down

For the one that needs a healing

Who’s falling down again

For the one that life sent reeling

Reaping pain for all their sins

For the one who’s been abandoned

Oh, I will be a friend

I will lay my life down

I will lay my life down

I will lay my life down
